Questions people ask
What is the stamp duty in Navi Mumbai and Thane?
7% of the property value for a man buying alone, and 1% less when the home is bought only in women's names. Registration is extra: 1% of the value, but never more than ₹30,000.
What is the stamp duty in Mumbai?
6% within BMC limits (5% stamp duty plus 1% metro cess), with the same 1% concession for women buyers, plus registration of 1% up to ₹30,000.
On what value is stamp duty charged?
On the agreement value or the government's ready reckoner value for that property, whichever is higher. A low price on paper does not lower the stamp duty below the ready reckoner value.
Is there GST on a resale flat?
No. GST applies only to under-construction homes bought from a builder. A ready flat with an occupation certificate, or any resale flat, has no GST — only stamp duty and registration.
Do I pay stamp duty on a bank auction property?
Yes, when the sale certificate is registered. The value it is charged on and the timing can differ from a normal sale, so ask us before you bid and we will tell you what to budget for.
